In this section Leader trainees will be brainstorming about topics that require social responsibilities, and they will design ideas that can be realized, develop them into projects, and then prepare their presentation or demos. They will sometimes perform the role of presenter and sometimes that of the jury evaluating those projects.

The purpose of these sessions is to enhance the following characteristics in leader trainees to become powerful individuals and assets wherever they go.

The trainees will be writing down important notes and taking pictures for memories. These places will be museums, famous landmarks and landscapes. Moreover, there will also be visits to some successful professionals who will talk about their stories of success. There will be speeches and panels organized. These groups will be made up of academics, professionals, and successful businessman who have high social activity and responsibility, who regularly organize speeches and panels. The outcome of these panels and speeches will be documented by the Leader Trainees, and added to the their “camp journal” portfolios.

In this platform,  young leaders will perform their skills and talents individually and in groups. They will have the opportunity to present cultural heritage and perform traditional ceremonies, demonstrations, programs and parties. They will have a “culture night” where they will present and even compete in groups demonstrating their traditional food, dances, skill and ceremonies. This will be an evening activity including the host families.  2 or 3 times a week.

LEADERSHIP SUMMER CAMP 2011

The FEBA Educational Department was able to successfully organize and complete its first “International Leadership Summer Camp.”  The aim of the three week long summer camp was to bring together international and Balkan American students to provide leadership training and development.  The camp program included: critical reading; project based learning; traveling; sports; music and scouting.

The leadership camp brought together international students with host families from the local communities.  International students were placed in host families with children of similar age, and the youth of the host families attended leadership camp together with the international students staying in their homes. This resulted in an opportunity to develop deep bonds between our youth here and the international students that were staying with them. Our local youth counselors did a fantastic job teaching the students life experiences, leadership lessons, and mentoring them in a way that they could make the most of their experience.  In addition, they showed the students around famous landmarks in the United States.  The camp counselors took the position of becoming a “Role Model” for the students.  Now, these Role Models are planning to share their experiences with the new counselors for next year’s program.

The FEBA volunteer families, who hosted international students for 3 weeks, must also be mentioned and recognized. The hospitality they showed to each of their students was not ordinary hospitality. Their hospitality laid a foundation for the children to start sincere lifelong friendships.  That’s why they accepted these students as their own children; provided them with a safe and warm environment. They had a great time together celebrating birthday parties, cooking special dishes for the kids or going to picnics on the weekends. At no point, did the international students feel as if they were away from home.

The greatest beneficiaries of the program were the students.  They amassed unforgettable memories that they would retain for the rest of their lives.  The students had the chance to visit a lot of amazing places that they had only seen in the movies.  They gained different and new unimagined perspectives and ideas from the counselors and their friends.  The horizons are limitless.

We would like to thank all and congratulate all the participants that has made this program an overwhelming success.

Testimonials:

The FEBA summer camp was a great experience for me, I got to meet new people and make new friends , they taught us many things and took us to various places such as Six Flags, Empire State building, Washington D.C and many more places.  I especially enjoyed the time when they took us to Six Flags and Washington D.C which was a 5 hour ride, but with the people there made it really fun and quick. I really appreciate everything that they have done for us and hopefully get to do it again.
